Heinz Sauer
Heinz Sauer, born in 1932, is considered a "giant" (FAZ) and a "master of the saxophone" (DIE ZEIT). The tenor saxophonist has preserved his creativity and vital, unpredictable playing style to this day. Since his early days performing alongside Albert Mangelsdorff, he has been at the heart of European jazz history and is regarded as a foundational figure in German jazz. As a member of the hr-Jazzensemble, in his long-standing collaboration with pianist Bob Degen, and since 1999 in a duo with Michael Wollny, Heinz Sauer has always sought the highest level of expression on his instrument. Through mutual inspiration, he has celebrated the freedom of modern jazz.
